Why Is My Load Shifting to Battery Despite Panels Working?

A common question from solar owners - here is what is actually happening and how to fix it.

What Is Load Shifting?

Load shifting happens when your inverter routes power from the battery to your home loads instead of using live solar generation. If you notice your battery discharging during daylight hours when panels appear to be working, it can be confusing - but it usually has a straightforward cause.

Grid is absent

Zenergize inverters are grid-tied. When the grid goes down, the inverter stops exporting to the grid and may shift loads to battery backup to protect the system. Check the grid indicator on the app - if Grid Present shows OFF, this is the cause.

PV voltage is outside the operating range

If panels are partially shaded or the sun angle is low (early morning or late evening), PV voltage may fall below the MPPT operating range of 110–420 V. The inverter will not generate from panels in this state and will fall back to battery.

Inverter has tripped on a fault

Check the Overall Performance tab in the Zenergize app for any active fault codes. A fault will stop solar generation even if panels appear to be working. Reset by switching off the Grid MCB and switching it back on. If the fault code persists, contact support.

Grid voltage or frequency out of range

The inverter only operates when grid voltage is between 192–264 V and frequency is between 47.5–50.5 Hz. If your grid supply is unstable, the inverter will disconnect and load may shift to battery.

How to Check via the App

Open the Zenergize app → Inverter Settings → Overall Performance. Check: PV Present, Grid Present, Inverter On, Fault Code. All four should show healthy status for normal solar generation.
